I had to replace by old, dusty and noisy hardware in my office's appartment...
I must say it's nowadays much more difficult to prepare your shopping (It's for a linux server).I spent a lot of time checking if nforce4, SATA, sil 3114, 64 bits are OK under linux. I've no issue so far, so I'm happy!
I've bought a AMD64 3000+ (yeah 64 bits looked sexy), the MSI neo4 platinum mainboard (not SLI) (it's not called platinium), and the textorm 974B tower. I probably let conf files public for those interested (sensors conf, smartctl conf, yada yada)
This new pci-express thing is a shame (I didn't hear about this before, as I'm no hardware geek ;). Indeed there is no AGP bus anymore ! I own a lot of old hardware but it wasn't old enough... I don't own a old PCI video card (rage pro etc... I probably have given them away) which would probably have fit. So, I've been forced to buy a Asus X300SE video card (fanless hopefully) at 80 euros... (I don't have a X-server on the box...)
I'm currently installing Ubuntu Hoary x86_64 in server mode.
